I can make a village/society based on what I have around me. I wouldn't mind some sort of sentry-like or town watch job, either to fend off wolves or bears or whatever, but please no military!Įverything is available - From day one, you see that wood? You can chop that down. I think Banished brings a nice change of pace, and I for one sincerely hope there is no military introduced into the game at any point. My favourite part of playing the Stronghold franchise was not besieging castles or defending your people from raiders, it was simply building a proper and realistic environment for the people to live inside the walls of a castle. Lack of military - Honestly, it's just nice to have a builder than doesn't put military to the forefront of the game/objectives. I'll try and knock these into a few bullet-points because really, we could sit and name everything that this game does differently to any other game. All I know is that this game is something else, and I think it's going to be huge. Is it because you develop an attachment to these little AI people with names and families? The satisfaction of watching the resources and effort being transformed into constructions? Worrying about more basic hardships like starvation and hunger, rather than crime or war? The fact that success isn't measured in money, but life? That wealth is measured in the basic needs and happiness? The beauty that comes with simplicity and functionality? So what the hell is it that has me checking this goddamn sub every hour for more videos? Really, this game shouldn't be anything too special. Simcity builds bigger(well, taller) and faster, looks better too, Civ5 has some exciting combat with tons of different play styles. It looks like simple mechanics, it's pretty, but it's not amazing, the gameplay is maybe kinda slow, and a bit repetitive. Seriously, what's the appeal? At first glance, it doesn't look terribly exciting. There is something more here, something I'm missing. I have never even come close to watching so much gameplay for a game. Why? Seriously, why am I so excited to watch these little people build me a little town? Why have Biffa and quill18 dropped everything else to play this? I have watched and rewatched every goddamn scrap of video released for this game. I really can't play any game for more than an hour and a half.

In the past year, I've done a few plays of Civ5, about 40 hours of Simcity, 20 hours of Rust, and I'll hop onto War Thunder once or twice a week with friends. I absolutely love this game, and I haven't even played it yet.
